Working with Puppet for about six months now I’ve come to noticed that the community around puppet is not nearly as large as the community around Ruby and Ruby on Rails. I suppose Puppet appeals to a smaller group of people since it has only one main function (systems configuration). That is not to say there isn’t a lot of interest around Puppet. I attended Puppet camp in San Francisco last year and met lots of people passionate about working with Puppet.
Yet, I find it surprising that there isn’t a Puppet user Meetup group in Los Angeles. Therefore, I decided to try and start one. Thanks to the help of Jose Palafox at Puppet Labs we got a Meetup page setup and an event lined up. Our page has only been up for one week and we already have 18 members! I think that’s a good start.
For our first event we will be joining the League of Professional System Administators for an Introduction to Puppet presented by Puppet labs. For more info visit our Meetup page: http://www.meetup.com/LAPMUG/
